The Foundation is a Limited Partner in the Longwall Ventures ECF.
The ERA Foundation has become a limited partner in the £40M Longwall Ventures Enterprise Capital Fund (ECF). The ECF fund is designed to invest in early stage and start-up science/engineering ventures.
The fund is comprised of a £25 million of investment from Capital for Enterprise, the UK Government’s fund of funds manager, and £15 million of private investment (including from the ERA Foundation).
The goal will be to invest in approximately 16 start up and early stage science or engineering ventures. These ventures will have the potential to (cost) disrupt an existing market or gain a material share of a rapidly growing new market.
These companies are likely to be business-to-business rather than consumer product based, and Longwall’s interests are diverse. With investments ranging from medical devices to defence/aerospace, the synthesising new materials to recycling old materials, new measurement techniques to storing and analysing the resulting data, energy saving technologies to energy exploration.
