The ERA Foundation has made a medium sized investment in LimitEar.
LimitEar Ltd is a UK-based company specialising in technologies that protect headphone and earpiece users from serious irreversible conditions, such as Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL).
The use of headphones and earpieces is at an all time high. Consumers listening on the move, professionals seeking the latest audio equipment, Health and Safety legislation – are just a few reasons why they are considered essential kit. But there are dangers. When regularly exposed to noise for long periods of time, users can suffer severe long-term hearing damage and pain.
NIHL results from damage to sensitive structures within the inner ear. These small sensory hair cells convert sound energy into electrical signals that travel to the brain. Caused by repeated exposure to high volume earpiece devices, NIHL harms cells beyond repair. This can result in loss of hearing and have a devastating impact on everyday life.
