Statement on COVID-19 and the 2020 ERA Foundation Lunch and Lecture

In light of the unprecedented escalation in the Coronavirus situation, we have decided to cancel this year’s ERA Foundation Lunch and Lecture.

Although it was essential to do so, it was still a very difficult decision to forgo this annual opportunity to meet face to face, given the immense importance of all our partners, organisations and individuals to the Foundation.

We are pleased to say that Phil Smith has already agreed to deliver his planned lecture when we all convene again in May 2021

The past year has been a very positive one for the ERA Foundation.

In addition to continuing to work closely with colleagues from the Royal Academy of Engineering, The Royal Society and the Royal Commission of the Exhibition of 1851, we have been delighted with the progress of the STEM Accord Initiative which we launched together with our fantastic STEM skills delivery partners in coordination with EngineeringUK.

We hope that STEM Accord will continue to grow, providing place-based support for existing national skills initiatives to fit local and regional industrial strategies.

We were also very pleased to have been one of the main sponsors of Policy Connect and the Manufacturing Commission’s “Level Up Industry report, which emphasises the importance to the national economy of responding the specific opportunities and challenges in manufacturing and skills on a regional basis.

May I close by wishing you good health and looking forward to seeing you in May next year.
