ERA Foundation Short Industry Fellowship

The ERA is delighted to announce that it has awarded the Royal Society ERA Foundation Short Industry Fellowship 2019 to Dr Christopher Donaghy-Spargo of the University of Durham for his work on the use of ‘rare earth metal’ based permanent magnets for higher power density and efficiency brushless motors.

The Foundation has long supported the Royal Society’s programme for short industry fellowships.

These fellowships promote collaboration between academia and early-stage companies, something we feel should be particularly encouraged. The personal and corporate links established by the researcher between the two sectors in the UK will seed longer-term collaborations and contribute to their long-term future development.

Dr Donaghy-Spargo’s work has potential benefits for the sustainability of supply of materials and reduction of environmental impact, as well as providing innovative new products for the partner company, Black and Decker.
